Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce tomato, onion (optional)
  • 30 grams light roast coffee beans
  • 500 grams filtered water
  • Coffee grinder
  • Pour-over cone and filter

Equipment

  • grill
  • coffee grinder
  • pour-over cone
  • kettle
  • scale
  • timer

Method

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F).
  2. Form beef into 4 patties, season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Grill patties for 4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until internal temp reaches 160°F.
  4. Toast buns on grill for 1 minute.
  5. While burgers rest, grind coffee to a medium-fine consistency (similar to table salt).
  6. Boil water, then let cool for 30 seconds to reach 200°F.
  7. Place filter in pour-over cone, rinse with hot water, discard rinse water.
  8. Add ground coffee, make a small well in the center.
  9. Pour 50 grams water in a spiral, starting from center out. Bloom for 30 seconds.
  10. Continue pouring in slow, concentric circles until you reach 500 grams total water. Total brew time should be 3 to 3.5 minutes.
  11. Serve coffee black alongside the burger.

Notes

For the best flavor pairing, choose a light roast coffee with notes of citrus or stone fruit. The acidity cuts through the fat of the burger. Handle hot equipment with care. Caffeine affects individuals differently; consult a professional for personal health decisions.
